PDP BoT Reaffirms Support For Turaki-Led NWC, Condemns Secretariat Invasion

The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has reaffirmed its support for the Taminu Turaki–led National Working Committee elected at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.

In a statement on Wednesday, Wabara said the BoT is convinced that the convention was convened in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, Electoral Act and all extant regulations.

According to him, the Ibadan gathering represented the “collective will of delegates and stakeholders” across the federation.

Wabara condemned the recent invasion of the PDP National Secretariat by individuals he described as “expelled members and armed thugs”, accusing them of attempting to forcefully take over the party complex.

The board said the expelled elements also mobilised thugs to block Turaki, the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and other leaders from accessing the secretariat.

The BoT commended the courage of governors, NWC members, the BoT itself, and supporters who resisted the attackers.

Wabara criticised statements and media appearances by those expelled, accusing them of attempting to distort facts and delegitimise the convention.

“Their attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and create confusion within the party structure are not only mischievous but also constitute a direct assault on the principle of internal democracy in our country,” the statement read.

Calling for accountability, the BoT urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attack on the party’s national secretariat and prosecute those responsible.

“Democracy thrives only where institutions remain impartial, professional, and insulated from partisan manipulation,” Wabara added.

The BoT reiterated its commitment to preserving the unity, stability and democratic values of the party, insisting that the mandate given to the new NWC at the Ibadan Convention must be respected.

Wabara urged the Turaki-led committee to stay focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that distractions from expelled members should not derail ongoing reforms.
