PDP: Bala Mohammed Breaks Silence Amid Rumoured Defection To APC
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed speculations that he had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he remains a member of the opposition party.
Gkingmusik reports that the governor’s reaction followed widespread rumours that he was considering a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking briefly with journalists on Wednesday (today), shortly after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House, Mohammed downplayed the reports but declined to grant a full interview immediately.
“Pressmen, no interview for now. I will speak with Channels at 7 pm,” Daily Post quoted the Bauchi State Governor as saying.
Mohammed, however, made a short remark on the issue, stating, “I have not moved; they said that I have defected.”
The governor also described himself as “an international figure in politics,” noting that he would provide further clarification later in the day.
The oath of office for the new permanent secretaries was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Talatu Musa Umar.
The event, held at the Government House, marked another step in the administration’s ongoing civil service reforms.
Addressing the appointees, Mohammed charged them to uphold integrity and avoid any form of misconduct in the discharge of their duties.
“This administration will not tolerate corruption or any act capable of bringing the government into disrepute,” he warned.
He further urged them to remain disciplined, shun insubordination, and refrain from engaging in partisan politics while in office.
The governor also emphasised the importance of mentorship within the civil service, tasking the newly appointed officials with grooming younger officers.
According to him, ongoing reforms in the state’s civil service are anchored on building a new generation of professionals grounded in ethics and competence.
Mohammed assured retirees of his administration’s commitment to clearing outstanding gratuities, estimated at about N20bn.
He disclosed that the payment of 13-year arrears began in January 2026, expressing optimism that the backlog would be gradually cleared.
Rumours had earlier emerged suggesting that the Bauchi governor was weighing the possibility of defecting to the APC, with some reports claiming the move could happen within the week.
However, his latest remarks appear to have put the speculation to rest, at least for now, as he reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP.
