Osun Governorship Election: INEC Clears 14 Parties, Displays Candidates Details
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the publication of the personal particulars of candidates and their running mates for the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
gkingmusik reports that the disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Osun INEC Public Affairs Officer, Musa Olurode, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke.
According to the Commission, 14 political parties successfully uploaded the names and required documents of their governorship candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
“The submission followed the conclusion of party primaries and the close of the designated portal for uploading candidates’ particulars,” the statement read.
INEC listed the compliant parties as A, AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APGA, APC, APM, APP, BP, NNPP, PRP, YPP and ZLP.
It added that the list of candidates was released by the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja after due verification and confirmation of compliance with constitutional and regulatory requirements.
INEC explained that the publication was carried out in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Item 4 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Osun State Governorship Election.
The Commission stated that copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, alongside academic credentials and other supporting documents, would be displayed at its state and local government offices.
“Copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, alongside their academic credentials and other supporting documents, would be displayed at the Commission’s state office and across its local government offices,” the statement noted.
It added that the documents would be available for public inspection from Monday, February 16, 2026, at the state office, all 30 local government area offices and the Area Office in Osun State.
INEC urged political parties, candidates and members of the public to inspect the published documents as provided by law.
“The Commission hereby notifies political parties and the general public that fourteen political parties have successfully complied with the requirements within the stipulated timeframe,” it said.
The Commission clarified that only the 14 listed political parties would participate in the governorship election, having met the necessary conditions within the prescribed period.
Meanwhile, the REC, Agboke, reassured stakeholders of INEC’s commitment to transparency, professionalism and the conduct of credible elections.
“The Commission remains firmly committed to the conduct of credible elections in accordance with the law and best democratic practices,” he said.
