Rangers technical adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu has dismissed claims that he is preparing to walk away from the Flying Antelopes, insisting he is fully committed to the club despite recent reports of discord within the coaching set-up.
Stories circulated earlier in the week suggesting a rift between Fidelis Ilechukwu and some of his assistants, with speculation that the coach was weighing his future in Enugu.
The former MFM manager, who also serves as one of the assistants to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, has moved quickly to clear the air.
Speaking to journalists in Enugu ahead of Rangers’ clash with Bayelsa United, Ilechukwu described the rumour as baseless and said he intends to see out his deal at the club.
“All those things are not true, it’s not possible, I have contract with Rangers,” he said. “In all the clubs I’ve worked, I finished my contract and I’ve never been sacked anywhere.”
Rangers welcome Bayelsa United to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday in their matchday 16 fixture, with the Coal City side hoping to continue their push near the top end of the table.
Meanwhile, Kwara United will head into their own matchday 16 clash with Niger Tornadoes without three key players. Aliyu Salaudeen, Issa Gata and Shola Abdulraheem have all been ruled out as they recover from injury. The club has not disclosed the nature of the setbacks, though all three are currently undergoing treatment.
Form has been a concern for the Harmony Boys, who have picked up just two points from their last four matches, drawing with Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United. Head coach Suleiman Ashifat will be aiming for a positive response when they face Tornadoes at the Rashidi Yekini Stadium on Sunday.
Kwara United will also be chasing revenge after losing 2-1 to Tornadoes in the same fixture last season.
