Lagos Assembly Lawmaker Dumps Labour Party, Joins ADC

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Foluke Stella Osafile, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Osafile represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I and is currently the only opposition lawmaker in the 40-member Assembly.
The lawmaker, who is a first-time legislator, is expected to formally announce her defection to the ADC during plenary in the coming days.
Confirming the development to Western Post, Osafile said, “Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC.”
However, she declined to state the reasons for her decision.
When asked when she would officially notify her colleagues on the floor of the House, she said, “Don’t worry, I will announce it during plenary soon.”
Osafile currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation.
She was elected into the Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, defeating the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Folorunso Olaitan Segun, by a wide margin.
Her victory was subsequently challenged by the APC at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled in favour of the APC candidate.
Osafile, however, approached the Court of Appeal and successfully reclaimed her seat, bringing the legal contest to an end.
