Ibas urges residents to uphold peace in Rivers LGA

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), has called on the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) to prioritize peace as a fundamental pillar for sustainable development.

Ibas made this appeal during a town hall meeting held at Omoku, the ONELGA headquarters, over the weekend. The event brought together critical stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional rulers, youth groups, and community leaders, to deliberate on reinforcing security and progress in the area.

Represented by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, alongside a high-level delegation of security chiefs, Ibas emphasized that:

“Without peace, no meaningful development can thrive.”

He reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to strategic engagement and inclusive collaboration aimed at enhancing security and socio-economic growth across ONELGA.

“Peace is Not Negotiable”

The Sole Administrator stressed that “peace is not negotiable” and called on all stakeholders—including youths, traditional leaders, women, and security agencies—to work together to maintain stability.

He further directed the ONELGA Sole Administrator, Dr. Chukwuma Ajie, to hold regular town hall meetings to address grievances and foster harmony within the community.

On his part, CP Adepoju urged youths and community leaders to safeguard government facilities and report abandoned but essential projects for swift government intervention.

Dr. Ajie commended the improved security situation in ONELGA, describing the area as “safe and open for investors.” He praised security agencies for restoring order and encouraged continued cooperation with the state government.

During the meeting, representatives from various zones raised pressing concerns, prompting CP Adepoju to request written submissions for further action by the state government.

The event concluded with an inspection of the ONELGA Secretariat, underscoring the government’s dedication to infrastructural development. Vice Admiral Ibas reiterated that Rivers State can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and security, urging residents to remain law-abiding and proactive in peacebuilding efforts.
