I Have No Anointed Candidate For 2027 – Zulum Tells Borno APC Leaders

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared that he has no preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that the choice of who leads the state next should be left to the democratic will of the people.

Gkingmusik reports that Zulum made the declaration late Sunday during an All Progressives Congress stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House, Maiduguri.

Addressing party leaders, elected officials and members, the governor said he neither had a candidate for any position nor knew who would succeed him if the APC retains the governorship seat in 2027.

“I have no candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me. I have entrusted the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah, in accordance with the democratic will of the party members and the people of Borno State,” Zulum declared.

The governor stressed that he remained committed to the ideals of the APC, noting that fairness, transparency and justice must guide the forthcoming party congresses.

According to him, the integrity of the process is crucial to maintaining party unity and securing the APC’s future success in the state.

Zulum warned against imposition, saying that any attempt to manipulate the process could weaken the party and erode public confidence.

The governor strongly advocated the emergence of a new crop of party officials, urging stakeholders to allow fresh faces to take up leadership positions within the party.

He said a transparent and inclusive process would strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure and deepen internal democracy across the state.

Zulum appealed to party stakeholders to put personal interests aside and work collectively towards building a stronger and more united APC in Borno.
