The incidents reportedly left about 25 people injured and several properties vandalised across different local government areas.

The PDP in Oyo State is currently divided into two factions, one loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and another aligned with Wike.

The Wike-backed faction held its local government congresses on Saturday.

However, the exercise reportedly degenerated into violence in several areas, including Ibadan North, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele and Ogbomoso North local government areas.

Reports indicated that houses and vehicles were vandalised during the attacks.

The residence of a former governor of the state, Barrister Hazim Gbolarumi, located in the Bodija area of Ibadan North Local Government Area, was also reportedly attacked.

Properties worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the building.

The chairman of the Wike-led PDP faction in Oyo State, Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the incidents to Daily Post, alleging that thugs were moving around the state attacking people.

“There may be a need to upgrade the damages. More than 25 vehicles have been reported damaged. They are moving round the local governments, attacking individuals at home. Buildings were damaged,” Akinoso said.

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the police had received reports of the attacks.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the arrest of those responsible.

“It is an internal affair of a political party. It did not happen at the congress. It is outside the congress venues,” Ayanlade said.

“We received a report of the attack on the residence of a former governor of the state. CP has ordered for the arrest of the hoodlums. We are on top of the matter,” he added.
