Former Immigration Boss, Babandede Joins APC, Declares Senatorial Ambition

Former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Hadejia, Jigawa State.
Gkingmusik reports that he also announced his plan to contest the Senate seat for the Jigawa Northeast District in the 2027 elections.
Since leaving office in September 2021, Babandede had been linked to the idea of running for Jigawa governorship.
He explained that while supporters encouraged him to pursue the governorship in 2023, he chose to respect the current leadership under Governor Umar Namadi and decided instead to focus on a senatorial role.
Babandede said Governor Namadi has performed well and has the right to seek another term if he wishes.
According to Premium Times, Babandede’s registration with APC on Sunday was largely formal, as he has been actively involved in the party.
He campaigned for both Governor Namadi and President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections, maintaining strong party ties.
Announcing his Senate ambition, Babandede said his decision is driven by appeals from the people of Jigawa Northeast.
He outlined plans to concentrate on legislative responsibilities, protect constituents’ rights, and foster cooperation between the legislature, state government, and federal authorities to ensure projects are effective and not duplicated.
Rejecting the practice of giving out consumables as constituency projects, Babandede stated he would focus on long-term development, including building institutions and improving education to create a productive population.
To ensure his work addresses real needs, he said a local team has been tasked with assessing the priorities of the district, with the findings to guide his collaboration with government agencies.
