
Five police officers were killed and two others injured on Sunday after suspected bandits ambushed a joint tactical team in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The attack, which occurred around 12:40 pm, targeted personnel drawn from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID), who were on a visibility patrol aimed at preventing farmer–herder clashes.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, confirmed the deaths of:
DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID)
ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF)
Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF)
Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF)
Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU)
Two other officers, Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID), sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Darazo General Hospital.
Wakil said the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene to rescue the injured personnel and recover the remains of the fallen officers.
The bodies have since been deposited at the morgue.
He added that an intensive manhunt for the attackers had begun, assuring residents that the Command remained committed to apprehending those responsible.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the affected area to assess the attack and console the family members of the deceased officers.
Wakil quoted the Commissioner as reaffirming the Command’s determination to safeguard the state.
“The task has not been easy, but the Command remains fierce, tireless and relentless in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Bauchi State,” he said.
