FCT: PDP Sweeps Big Cele Settlement Polling Unit In Bwari
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded a landslide victory at Big Cele Settlement, Polling Unit 076, in Dutse Alhaji Ward of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, during the 2026 Area Council elections.
The outcome saw the PDP dominate both the chairmanship and councillorship contests at the unit.
Official figures from Polling Unit 076 (EC 8A, Serial No. 0000258) showed the PDP polling 74 votes in the chairmanship race. The All Progressives Congress scored two votes, while the African Democratic Congress secured three votes. The Social Democratic Party and Zenith Labour Party recorded one vote each, while other parties failed to secure any.
In the councillorship contest, the PDP garnered 75 votes, APC polled four, ADC scored two, and SDP recorded one vote. Other parties again failed to win any votes.
Result sheets sighted indicated that out of 140 registered voters, 92 were accredited. Eleven ballots were rejected in the chairmanship race, leaving 81 valid votes, while 10 ballots were rejected in the councillorship contest, leaving 82 valid votes.
The presiding officer at the unit was Amanyi Judith Ada.
Speaking shortly after the declaration of results, PDP chieftain and presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, expressed gratitude to residents for their participation and support.
“This victory belongs to the people. It reflects consistent engagement, listening leadership, and our shared commitment to progress at the grassroots,” he said.
The election at the polling unit was conducted peacefully, with security personnel present and electoral officials reportedly adhering to established guidelines.
The result came against the backdrop of claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, influenced the withdrawal of the PDP candidate on the eve of the election, allegations that heightened political tension ahead of the polls.
Party stakeholders said the near-total sweep at the unit underscores the PDP’s sustained grassroots presence in the community and could boost the party’s confidence ahead of future contests, including the 2027 general elections.
The FCT Area Council elections, conducted across the six area councils, are widely regarded as a key test of party mobilisation strength in the nation’s capital.
