Ex Presidential Aide Obono-Obla Arrested, Detained In Calabar
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested former presidential aide and lawyer, Okoi Obono-Obla, over allegations linked to forgery and gaining admission into the legal profession through false claims.
Gkingmusik reports that the arrest took place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, around noon at Abuja Park in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, confirmed that officers acted based on a petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police.
The petition accused Obono-Obla of offences related to forgery and obtaining professional qualification and entry into the legal field under false pretence.
The police explained that the arrest followed due process and was carried out within the powers granted to the Nigeria Police Force to investigate criminal complaints.
After he was taken into custody, Obono-Obla was moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar, where further inquiries are ongoing.
The command dismissed reports circulating on social media which claimed that the former presidential aide had been kidnapped in Ugep.
It stated clearly that he was not abducted and that no unknown gunmen were involved.
According to the police, the claims of kidnapping and the involvement of unidentified security groups are not true.
The command also made it known that his lawyer has been informed about the arrest and is involved in the matter.
His family members are reportedly aware of his location.
The police urged members of the public to avoid spreading unconfirmed information that could cause fear or disturb peace in the state.
It added that more details would be made public as the investigation continues.
