Gkingmusik reports that the visit comes days after the high-profile defection of Governor Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling APC.

According to a statement issued by Basiru after the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways of strengthening party unity.

Basiru described the meeting as an opportunity to explore ways to further consolidate the APC’s presence in Kano State.

“I paid courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, H.E. Abba Yusuf, at the Kano Governor’s Lodge,” he wrote.

“The visit afforded us opportunity of discussing how to further strengthen and unify our party, the APC, in Kano State and further the support base of the Governor.”

Meanwhile, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has warned the party’s National Working Committee against ceding control of party structures to state governors ahead of its upcoming congresses.

Nabena, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, said such a move could provoke internal crisis and push grassroots members away from the party, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.

The Bayelsa-born APC chieftain argued that electoral victory in 2027 would depend on the support of ordinary Nigerians, not the political elite.

Nabena alleged that information reaching him from the party’s national secretariat suggested that the Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda-led NWC was preparing to transfer control of party structures to sitting governors across the country.

Nabena called for transparency in the forthcoming ward, local government and state congresses, warning that any attempt to exclude aspirants would spark legal disputes across the states and the Federal Capital Territory.
