APC ADC Candidates Tie At Supreme Court Quarters Polling UnitThe chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) recorded a tie at the Supreme Court Staff Quarters polling unit in Karu, Abuja, during Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Voters at the polling unit cast 12 votes each for the candidates of both parties in an exercise characterised by low turnout.

Announcing the results, the Presiding Officer, Martins Sani, said Christopher Maikalangu of the APC polled 12 votes, while Paul Moses of the ADC also secured 12 votes.

According to him, only 32 out of the 749 registered voters cast their ballots at the polling unit.

He added that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party garnered four votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate secured two votes.

The Social Democratic Party and the Action Democratic Party recorded one vote each.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said the 2026 FCT Area Council elections had been peaceful.

The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Olusola Odumosu, gave the assessment during a briefing to journalists at the command headquarters after monitoring voting across various polling units.

He said, “I can tell you that everything is going smoothly and there is no cause for alarm. Apparently, before now, we had made very massive deployment to all the area councils so that we don’t have any issues and it’s visible at the places we have been.

“We don’t have any issue as far as peace and order are concerned, and I think this is highly commendable.”

Odumosu explained that the surveillance and show of force were aimed at deterring individuals who might attempt to disrupt the process or influence results.

“So we have our men on standby and I am sure sister agencies like the police and others are ready for whatever will be the outcome.

“But from what I have seen so far, there is massive deployment and I don’t envisage any problem.

“We are only waiting for elections to be concluded and by the time results will be announced, then that will be another face then we will know what the atmosphere will be like,” he added.

The commandant, however, expressed confidence that there would be no post-election violence.

“But if there is to be any, officers and men who are on duty are bound to arrest the situation,” he said.

Odumosu noted that the area council elections serve as a precursor to the 2027 general elections, which would require enhanced security preparedness.

“That’s a major election we are actually waiting for and preparing towards.

“I think that whatever it is that has happened during this election, by the time we get back to the table, we will be able to review, assess and from whatever findings we get and make amends where necessary,” he said.
