United Arab Emirates President
Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has publicly called Iran
“the enemy” and warned Tehran that his country is
“not easy prey,” marking a dramatic shift from how the UAE traditionally discusses its Gulf neighbour.
The president, known as MBZ, made the extremely rare public comments while visiting a hospital treating civilians injured in strikes.
“I wanted to send a message to the enemy of the UAE. The UAE is beautiful, the UAE is a model to be followed, but I tell you, do not be deceived by that. The UAE’s hand can reach and is strong, its flesh is bitter, and we are not easy prey,” MBZ said.
UAE, just like other Gulf states in the region, has been a target attracting Iran strike, not only on the US bases but also on civilian and economic infrastructure.
Gkingmusik gathered that the comments aired shortly after Emirati air defence systems responded to a missile threat, despite Iran’s president suggesting earlier that strikes across the Gulf would halt.
“We are carrying out our duty toward our country, our people, and those who live among us. May God protect the UAE, protect its people and everyone in it, and bless it with security and safety. I promise you that what is coming will show us stronger,” MBZ added.
The warning represents MBZ’s first public statement since the war between the United States, Israel and Iran began. The UAE has historically maintained careful diplomatic relations with Iran despite regional tensions, making the direct language particularly significant.
The shift suggests the UAE views Iranian missile strikes on its territory as crossing a red line that demands a public response, even at the risk of escalating tensions with its powerful neighbour across the Gulf.
