The newly elected vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Saidu, alongside two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards in the area, have been abducted by gunmen.
gkingmusik learnt that the incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening along the road between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi while the officials were travelling from Biu to Maiduguri.
According to Daily Post, unidentified passengers travelling in a Hizbah vehicle from Potiskum, Yobe State, to Biu were also abducted in the attack.
A politician who also confirmed the incident to the publication above said one of the councillors taken was the immediate past vice chairman of Biu LGA and appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted officials and other captives.
At the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
In related news, suspected terrorists who abducted seven construction workers in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for their release.
A source in one of the victims’ families told SaharaReporters on Wednesday evening that the kidnappers had made contact and insisted on the payment before the workers could regain their freedom.
“The kidnappers have reached out and demanded ₦500 million for the release of the seven construction workers.
“We are appealing to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release,” the source said.
The victims, construction workers engaged on a project in the community, were recently seized by armed men during an attack in Oba, throwing their families and residents into fear and uncertainty.
According to the source, the attackers stormed the construction site and forcefully took away the workers.
