Troops Overpower Bandits, Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims In Enugu–Benue Border Forest

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation UDO KA have rescued 14 persons kidnapped by bandits during a clearance operation in Orokam Forest, which borders Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State and Ogbadigbo LGA of Benue State.

Gkingmusik learnt that the victims were abducted while returning from a burial over the weekend.

Renowned security expert, Zagazola Makama, reported on Saturday that a source within the military confirmed the victims were rescued on Friday after troops, working alongside vigilance group operatives, stormed the criminals’ hideout following actionable intelligence.

He disclosed that the kidnappers opened fire as the team approached, but were subdued by the superior firepower of the troops, forcing them to flee and abandon their hostages.

Preliminary findings, the source said, revealed that the victims were kidnapped from two communities, Ezimo Agu in Udenu LGA of Enugu State and Orokam in Ogbadigbo LGA of Benue State.

They were reportedly held in separate camps deep inside the forest.

According to him, the rescued persons have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Udenu Division for profiling and eventual reunification with their families.

The source noted that troops had intensified patrols in the area to deny criminals freedom of action.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustain its operational momentum nationwide in order to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
