United States President Donald Trump has been presented with the first-ever Fifa Peace Prize during the official draw for the 2026 World Cup, with Fifa president Gianni Infantino hailing his role in promoting global stability.
Trump accepted a medal beside a large trophy, before Infantino read from the award citation and praised his leadership. The American leader called the honour a personal milestone. “This is truly one of the great honours of my life,” Trump said while addressing delegates and invited guests at the ceremony.
He went on to claim that his administration helped prevent major conflicts across the globe. “We saved millions of lives. The Congo, as an example, had 10 million deaths; they were heading for 10 million very quickly. Also, with India and Pakistan, we also stopped wars from happening just before they started,” he said.
The president also congratulated Infantino on commercial success ahead of the expanded World Cup. “Gianni has done an incredible job, you have set a new record on ticket sales. It is a nice tribute to you and the game of football, or as we call it soccer. It is beyond the numbers we thought were possible,” Trump added.
He continued to reflect on his first year back in office, telling the audience that the United States has regained its place on the world stage. “The world is a safer place now. The USA was not doing well a year ago, but now we are the hottest country in the world,” he said.
Infantino responded by praising Trump while outlining FIFA’s intention to promote international unity through sport.
“We want to see hope, we want to see unity, we want to see a future. This is what we want to see from a leader, and you definitely deserve the first FIFA Peace Prize,” he said.
