A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, barring any last-minute change, will on Monday formally register as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Daily Trust has gathered.
Top aides confirmed to Daily Trust that all preparations have been concluded for Atiku to pick up his membership card at Jada Ward 1, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Atiku, who met earlier today with the Adamawa ADC leadership in Yola, openly hinted at the move, describing the ADC as the new political platform for his supporters nationwide.
He told party members, “In Nigeria as a whole, there is a new political movement, is it not so? Today, the new movement has taken us to where? To the ADC. So, the people of Adamawa and Nigeria, our new party is ADC and our new leaders in Adamawa are here seated.”
The former VP then asked supporters if they would accept him formally into the fold, to which they responded with a loud “Yes.”
“After that, on Monday, I will be officially in the ADC. Before now, I was not in; you were there before me. Will you accept me?” he added.
He further said, “May God allow us to witness Monday. It is tomorrow; we are hopeful to meet tomorrow.”
Until now, doubts persisted over the level of commitment of both Atiku and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the ADC, after the opposition coalition they jointly led adopted the party in July for the 2027 presidential election.
Their absence at the unveiling of the ADC’s new national secretariat last week had also raised questions about internal cohesion.
