29 Kidnap Victims Freed As Troops Kill Scores Of Terrorists In Coordinated Operations
The Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded major operational successes across the country, neutralising dozens of terrorists, arresting over 100 criminal suspects, and rescuing at least 29 kidnapped victims in coordinated military operations.
Gkingmusiks reports that the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Monday (today) in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of ongoing military operations conducted between January 19 and January 23.
Onoja said the operations were intelligence-led and carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, stressing that troops acted professionally and in strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement, international humanitarian law, and human rights standards.
According to him, the sustained military offensives disrupted terrorist and criminal networks, led to the recovery of large caches of arms and ammunition, and helped restore relative peace in several troubled communities.
In the North-East, Onoja said troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai neutralised scores of Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists during coordinated ground and air operations in parts of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
He revealed that seven suspects were apprehended and four kidnapped victims rescued in Damboa, Askira/Uba, Chibok, Mafa, Gwoza, and Biu Local Government Areas of Borno State, as well as Michika and Damaturu LGAs of Adamawa and Yobe states.
Providing details of air operations, Onoja said, “Air interdiction and armed reconnaissance missions carried out in Damboa, Abadam, and Doron Duguri areas of Borno State resulted in multiple precision strikes.
“Battle damage assessment confirmed that dozens of terrorists were neutralised and their equipment destroyed.”
In the North-West, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma neutralised several terrorists, arrested 10 suspects, and rescued seven kidnapped victims during operations in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.
The military also recovered weapons, vehicles, and rustled livestock during the operations.
Onoja said troops of Operation Enduring Peace operating in the North-Central zone neutralised some extremists, apprehended 39 criminal suspects, and rescued four kidnapped victims in Plateau State and parts of Kaduna State.
He added that arms and ammunition were recovered, alongside $4,500 traced to proceeds from cattle rustling.
Similarly, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested 11 suspected kidnappers and rescued six victims across Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
In the South-South region, Onoja disclosed that troops of Operation Delta Safe destroyed 20 illegal oil refining sites and arrested 31 oil thieves and other criminal elements in Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Imo states.
In the South-East, troops of Operation Udo Ka rescued eight Cameroonian nationals kidnapped by sea pirates in Cross River State and arrested three suspects in Anambra State.
Onoja also revealed that about 80 militants surrendered with their arms and ammunition during the period under review.
The defence spokesman reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens.
He also appealed to the media to sustain responsible, accurate, and patriotic reportage in support of ongoing national security efforts.
